Welcome

Hi, and welcome to my blog! My name is Cathy Crawley, I am a Portrait and Wedding Photographer based in Sydney, Australia. I absolutely love what I do, I am deeply passionate about my photography, but most of all I enjoy seeing the look on my client's faces when they see their portraits for the first time. It is a thrill and an honour to be invited into the lives and homes of so many wonderful people, I love being able document the important moments in their lives - it is such a privilage. There is no better job!

This blog is where I post photos from my sessions and talk a little about the things that interest me. Please feel free to leave comments, I love to get feedback and I also love to network with other Photographers. So don't be shy!

If you would like to chat to me about booking a Portrait Session or your Wedding send an email to me at info@beautifulmoments.com.au or phone me on 0418803869

Christmas Sessions

Well it is coming up to that time of the year again and things are starting to get busier around the office here. So, I thought I should mention that I only have 6 more available family sessions before the Christmas cut off date arrives.  Due to the busy nature of the Christmas season all orders need to be placed by the 24th of November so that I can guarantee your products will be delivered by Christmas.  Christmas Gift vouchers will be available for purchase right up until the 19th of December.

If you would like to book in for a Christmas session don’t put it off until the last minute as I’d hate for you to miss out.

Spring has sprung

Months and months ago I got a call from a lady wanting to buy a gift voucher for a relative, that relative was Matt.  Matt and his wife Felicity were due to have a baby and the gift voucher was his birthday present.  Last week I received the call saying that they were ready for their close-up, so today we went out in the gorgeous weather that was the first day of Spring 2008.  If this is Spring, I say bring it on!

Cooper made some new friends today, they had 2 legs and white feathers and were happy to  join in on the family photo shoot.

George & Alyce - Engaged

This afternoon I headed down to The Rocks in Sydney to take some Engagement Photos for George and Alyce.  George is from Ireland and Alyce was born and bread here in Sydney, their wedding is taking place on Halloween so that George’s family and friends can make the trip out during their Irish public holidays. As the wedding is going to be in the Hills District so I thought that their Engagement Photos should include The Opera House, the Harbour Bridge and some historic parts of Sydney. I’m sure these photos are going to psych George’s family up and get them in the mood for the long trip to Australia.  I can’t wait, I love a good Irish accent ;)

Here is the slideshow, it might take a minute to load so be patient :)

Rebecca Ford - Headshots

Today’s photo shoot was for the lovely Rebecca Ford.  Rebecca was after some bright and bubbly headshots to help her get some Presenting work, her dream is to get a job on a kids show.  After spending some time with her today I think she’d be perfect for that type of job, she is a ray of sunshine.

I’ll have a few more photos to post of Rebecca over the weekend.  I love this first one, the wind picked up for just a few seconds which was long enough for me to get some shots of her hair blowing in the breeze, love love love that!

Playing around

As you, my regular blogstalkers can see, I have been changing the blog.  I’m trying to find the right fit for me.  I have wanted to change my logo to incorporate my name for a while now so I’m playing around in photoshop to see what I can come up with.  As for the background, hmmmm not sure if it looks as good as I thought it was going to, I might have to go back to my hot pink one.

Anyway, I have a very busy week ahead of me so there will be lots of photos to post over the next few days. I’ve got headshots, engagement photos and family portraits to do back to back over the weekend.  You might come back and find a whole new look to the blog, or you might find the old look back up again.  Who knows, I’ll keep you guessing!  Feedback, as always is welcome.   Have a great day :)

John Kater

Today I headed down to the Rocks in Sydney to get some new publicity shots for John Kater, the awesome Bass Player from Jonah’s Road.  Ya’ll know how much I love the boys from JR so I’m always happy to be the one to take their photos.  I know these guys are going to be huge, and if Giddy Up their latest single doesn’t launch them into the music stratosphere I don’t know what will!  They rock!  They have a few gigs coming up in Sydney with Jon English so make sure you check them out ;)

Snow Holiday - Day 3

We woke up on our third day in the snow sad that we had to leave.  After we checked out of Thredbo we drove over to Perisher for one last frolic in the snow.  It was a lot colder than on Sunday and the wind chill had certainly picked up so it wasn’t as pleasant outside as it was the first time we were there.  This however did not stop James from jumping on his Snowboard and heading up the slopes, nore did it stop Ben, Steven and I from pulling out the Toboggan for a few icy slides down the hills.

Ben had a ball pushing his Scoop truck all through the snow, it was way more fun playing with him there than it is at our house!  As cold as it was he had a great time, but try explaining to him why we can’t take the snow in the car with us!

After three days in the snow and one awesome day of Skiing my family has decided that they have to come back every year and that sounds great to me! ;)

Here are some final photos from our trip.  The first ones are of some trees that I thought looked really artistic with the shadows reflecting in the snow.

Snow Holiday - Day 2

Today I woke up to a beautiful sight, snow falling on my 37th Birthday! I couldn’t have asked for a better gift than to see fluffy snowflakes fall from the heavens on my Birthday.  At first the snow was light and barely noticeable but after 10 minutes or so it was a gorgeous whirlwind of white fluffy ice swirling around to and fro.  I was mesmerised.

Last year Steven asked me what cake I wanted for my Birthday, after a while I told him that I wanted something different that year.  We usually go for either a Chocolate Mud Cake or a Vanilla Sponge. I said to Steven “How about a giant Neenish Tart?  Do you think they could make one of those?”  We joked about the giant Neenish Tart for a few weeks but come my birthday I was greeted with the Vanilla Sponge.  ”Bummer” I thought, I really would have loved to see a giant Neenish.  Fast forward to yesterday.  Ben was getting out of the car at Perisher when I heard Cassandra squeel “Oh no, the Cake!”  Ben had sat on the cake box that had been sitting on her lap all morning long.  When I opened it to see the damage, there it was, my giant Neenish Tart, squished and oozing fake cream and jam.  The look of disappointment on my face was probably priceless because Steven came up and gave me the biggest hug.  We put the Tart back in the car and even though it was obliterated by Benjamin’s bum we thought it was still worth saving.  After all, Steven went to a lot of trouble to get a bakery to make me a custom Neenish. This morning James went out for a while, when he returned he handed me 2 regular Neenish Tarts, how thoughtful!

Around lunchtime the 5 of us headed for Friday Flats, a beginners area of Thredbo.  At first I didn’t really feel like getting on the skis, I was worried that I was going to bump into someone or worse still fall flat on my face with one leg going one way and the other going another.  But I decided to go up the hill a bit and see what all the fuss was about.  I overheard a ski instructor telling his students how to slow down, so armed with that knowledge I set off, surprising myself by not falling over.  I went up the hill again feeling a little more confident and set off again for another steady decline.  I did this another 2 times, at that stage I felt confident enough to go and purchase a lift ticket and go for broke.

I was nervous when faced with how to get onto the ski chair, but once in the air with my feet hovering above the most beautiful sight below I relaxed, that was until I had to get off the chair.  By miracle I did that with perfection too.  However, the sight that met me at the top of the hill was one that scared the heck out of me, the mountain looked a lot more steep from the top of the hill.  ”Oh well” I thought, the only way is down and off I went, slowly and almost horizontally zig zagging my way to the bottom.  The feeling of exhilaration was overwhelming. I had conquered the hill and I was dying for more.  I went up again, and again until I got to the point where I wasn’t worried about slowing down or about falling.  I had found my snow legs, they were kind of like my ice-skating legs, but only more work.  In all I went up and down the hill 15 or 16 times, each time with more confidence and a thirst for more.  The most amazing part of this story is that I didn’t fall, not even once.  As the time neared 4.30, the time that the lift chairs closed I briefly thought of skiing over to the next lift, the one that went that much further and was slightly more difficult.  Alas, time was up and I had to call it a day.  James met me at the top of the mountain for our last ski down the hill, we waited until everyone else had arrived at the bottom so we had the mountain all by ourselves.  It truly was a moment to savour.  :)

It goes without saying that today was the best Birthday I can ever remember having.  I am so glad we came to the snow!  I left my camera in the Cabin while we went skiing so I didn’t get any action shots today, but I did buy a few images on CD that a photographer took of us so I’ll post those tomorrow after I have collected them and given them my gentle touch.  In the mean time here are today’s happy snaps!
